Will a remap void my warranty?
A remap can affect manufacturer warranty coverage on engine and drivetrain components. However, most of the vehicles we work on are outside their factory warranty period. For newer vehicles still under warranty, we can discuss a conservative Stage 1 map that stays within safe margins. Many dealerships in Ireland are remap-friendly and won't flag a well-executed tune. We always recommend disclosing the remap to your insurer.
Is it safe for my engine?
Yes — when done properly. A Stage 1 remap operates within the engineering safety margins of your engine. Manufacturers leave significant headroom in the factory tune to account for poor fuel quality, extreme climates, and minimal maintenance. Our maps are calibrated conservatively to respect these limits while delivering tangible performance gains. The key factor is engine health before tuning: we always run a full diagnostic scan first and won't remap an engine with pre-existing issues.
What's the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2?
Stage 1 is a software-only remap optimised for a completely stock vehicle. No hardware modifications needed. Expect 25-40% more power, better fuel economy, and improved drivability. Stage 2 requires supporting hardware modifications (downpipe, intercooler, intake) and delivers more aggressive gains — 40-60%+ depending on the platform. Stage 2 is for enthusiasts who've already upgraded their hardware. For most daily drivers, Stage 1 is the sweet spot.
Does a DPF delete affect the NCT?
DPF and EGR systems are part of emissions control equipment checked during the NCT (National Car Test). A properly executed DPF delete — where the DPF canister is gutted or replaced and the ECU is coded to match — is not visually detectable during a standard NCT inspection. The vehicle will pass the smoke opacity test as long as the engine is healthy and the tune is clean. However, you should be aware that removing emissions equipment has legal implications under Irish road traffic regulations. We provide full disclosure and let you make an informed decision.
How long does it take?
Most Stage 1 remaps take 1-2 hours from arrival to test drive. DPF/EGR/AdBlue work typically takes 2-4 hours depending on the vehicle and the solution required. We'll give you an accurate time estimate when you contact us with your vehicle details.
Can the remap be reversed?
Absolutely. We save your original ECU file and can restore it at any time — whether you're selling the car, returning a lease, or simply want to go back to stock. Reversal takes about 30 minutes and we can do it at your location.
